Heaptalk, Jakarta — Telkom Indonesia has established a strategic partnership with IBM Indonesia to provide innovative AI services tailored to Indonesia’s market needs. The collaboration is also expected to accelerate Telkom’s development and enhancement of AI capabilities.
Budi Setyawan Wijaya, Director of Strategic Portfolio Telkom, and Roy Kosasih, President Director of IBM, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). International Data Corporation (IDC) 2024 research revealed that AI and Gen AI investment in the Asia-Pacific region is projected to reach US$110 billion by 2028 with a CAGR of 24% from 2023 to 2024. In Indonesia, research by Kearney shows that AI will contribute US$366 billion to Indonesia’s economy by 2030.
Combined Telkom’s infrastructure and technology and IBM’s AI capabilities is expected to deliver a comprehensive strategy for the Indonesian market. IBM’s AI capabilities through WatsonX technology, Cloud Pak for Data, AI-powered Security, and IoT-based services are believed to strengthen Telkom Group’s capabilities and service portfolio.
Developing human-centered AI
According to Budi Setyawan Wijaya, Director of Strategic Portfolio Telkom, this strategic partnership is one of the efforts to strengthen Telkom Group’s capabilities as a digital telco, especially in AI. “The adoption of AI technology in the future will increase rapidly along with the strengthening digital transformation campaign in Indonesia, as well as the need to improve efficiency and productivity in both business and government segments,” Budi said.
Furthermore, IBM’s approach to developing human-centered AI and ethical principles for data governance will assist Telkom in building customer trust in its AI technology. Roy Kosasih, President and Director of IBM Indonesia, expressed his readiness to collaborate with Telkom, using his expertise in AI ethics and deep understanding of various industry use cases to help drive technological transformation in developing Indonesia’s economy.
