Heaptalk, Jakarta — Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Meutya Hafid has praised the collaboration between the Ministry and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in combating online gambling in Indonesia.
One of the key achievements of this partnership is blocking more than 10,000 bank accounts linked to illegal activities. This action follows directives from President Prabowo Subianto urging interagency synergy to eradicate online gambling effectively.
“President Prabowo instructed us before his departure that all relevant agencies must unite, demonstrating our nation’s stance against online gambling. We are committed to strengthening regulations that are responsive to technological advancements. We also appreciate the collaboration with OJK in building a secure, stable, and trustworthy digital financial ecosystem,” Meutya said during a press conference at the Komdigi Office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (11/14).
The Ministry of Komdigi and OJK have agreed to enhance regulations and intensify monitoring of transactions potentially linked to online gambling activities. Meutya emphasized, “Online gambling users risk having their accounts blocked. We will be firm on this and share related data with OJK.”
Meutya also highlighted the importance of digital literacy for the public, including using the cekrekening.id platform will be further developed in collaboration with OJK’s Anti-Scam Center. “This initiative is expected to help the public distinguish between safe accounts and those involved in financial crimes,” she added.
Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners Mahendra Siregar stressed that account blocking is done comprehensively and based on thorough analysis. He stated, “We ensure strict assessments on the related accounts and will take similar actions on other accounts owned by individuals identified as involved.”
This interagency collaboration reflects the government’s seriousness, particularly within the Merah Putih Cabinet, in protecting the public from online gambling threats while creating a safer and more sustainable digital financial ecosystem. “We also call on banks to conduct in-depth assessments of accounts affiliated with online gambling and to take similar measures against other accounts that have been blocked,” Mahendra concluded.
