Heaptalk, Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto recently met with the Minister of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. During the meeting, Minister Hafid outlined her ministry’s commitment to fully supporting ongoing investigations related to the recent arrests of its employees allegedly involved in online gambling.
“We are fully committed and open to cooperating with the police, even if an internal investigation within Kemkomdigi is required. This is an essential step to ensure a clean environment within our ministry so we can effectively fulfill the President’s mandate,” Hafid stated.
Hafid further explained that the ministry has initiated sterilization measures on particular floors as part of its support for the investigation. Additionally, Kemkomdigi issued a Ministerial Directive requiring all staff to cooperate with police to identify any further involvement within the ministry.
“All officials and civil servants at Kemkomdigi must assist the police in identifying other individuals involved in such activities. We are committed to full cooperation to ensure a thorough investigation,” Hafid added.
In addition to the internal measures, Kemkomdigi has initiated three daily gatherings for staff at every shift change, where employees sing the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya.” According to Hafid, this initiative aims to strengthen the spirit of nationalism among the ministry’s employees.
“We hope this helps boost morale and reminds everyone here of our commitment to serve the Republic of Indonesia, as President Prabowo has consistently emphasized,” Hafid said.
During her discussion with President Prabowo, Minister Hafid received strong encouragement to prioritize the eradication of online gambling, one of her primary goals. In just the first ten days following President Prabowo’s inauguration, Kemkomdigi successfully shut down 187,000 online gambling sites, a significant increase compared to previous efforts.
“This figure doesn’t represent an achievement alone as long as online gambling persists. However, there has been a positive trend with 187,000 sites taken down in the last ten days, and we will continue to escalate this effort,” Hafid clarified.
Hafid also outlined plans to expand the ministry’s digital oversight team to restrict cybercriminals’ activities, particularly in online gambling. She further committed to providing regular reports on closed sites, either weekly or daily, to allow the public to monitor the ministry’s progress.
“This will also serve as an internal evaluation for us. If the numbers decline, the public can scrutinize the reasons. So please continue to monitor our work closely,” Hafid concluded.
