Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) has held Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) for eleven days at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, which ended on 21 August 2022. The 29th GIIAS succeeded in achieving the goal to show a bright future for the automotive industry, by the theme, namely The Future is Bright.

GIIAS 2022 displayed the bright future of the Indonesian automotive industry that continues to grow and moves forward to welcome various forthcoming technological innovations. The presence of automotive technology innovations at the event, including electric motor vehicle technology, exhibits the achievements of the national automotive industry.

Indeed, the rapid growth of the Indonesian automotive industry is inseparable from the support of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, particularly the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Industry.

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, acknowledged that the future of the Indonesian automotive industry will always be bright. “I appreciate the theme of The Future is Bright, moreover in any situation, as we are facing the perfect storm. But do not worry, the car has lights so the future is always bright,” said Airlangga.

The General Chairperson of Gaikindo, Yohannes Nangoi, revealed that Gaikindo is committed to continuing to provide information and education about the development of the Indonesian automotive industry to the public through GIIAS. Hence GIIAS 2022 prepared a dedicated area that served as an electric vehicle (EV) test track.

Attract over 300,000 visitors

The chief organizer of GIIAS 2022, Rizwan Alamsjah, explained, “The public’s enthusiasm for the latest technology from the Indonesian automotive industry was extraordinary this year, recorded 385,487 visitors were present at GIIAS 2022. Besides the latest automotive technology, the EV test track area has also become a magnet for visitors to GIIAS 2022.”

More than 10 thousand visitors have tried and experienced the sensation of electric vehicles, both passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles in the GIIAS EV test track area throughout the exhibition. Visitors experienced directly the eminences of EVs, specifically for not producing gas emissions and noise pollution.

Thirty-nine vehicles, both for passenger and commercial, have been launched at the event, including sixteen electric vehicles and two concept vehicles. In addition to that, motorcycle manufacturers also launched seven two-wheelers, six of them electric motorcycles.

A total of 25 vehicle brands were presented at the exhibition. Passenger vehicle brands included Audi, BMW, Chery, Daihatsu, DFSK, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Kia, Lexus Mazda, MG, Mini, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, VW, and Wuling. Commercial vehicle brands spanning Hino, Isuzu, Mitsubishi Fuso, and UD Trucks.

Fifteen prominent two-wheeler brands participated as well, namely Alva, AHM, Benelli, CF Moto, Exotic Bike, Gelis, Keeway, Minerva, Pacific Bike, Royal Enfield, Segway, Selis, SM Motor, SYM, and Wmoto. Added to that, more than 100 supporting industry brands participated as well, and also from the carrosserie industry, namely Adiputro, Laksana, and Tentrem.

GIIAS The Series

The enormous achievement of GIIAS 2022 is also the result of full support from numerous sponsors, including Astra Financial as a platinum sponsor which presented with FIF Group, Astra Credit Company, Toyota Astra Financial, Astra Insurance, Astra Life, Astra Pay, MauCash, MOXA, and SEVA. Ilectra Motor Group Electrified by Alva, OLX Autos, and Pertamax Turbo presented as official trade-in partners. There were other sponsors such as GT Radial, Llumar, Astra Honda Motor, Protera Protection, Permata Bank, Superchallenge, The Body Shop, Skrineer, and Bkleen.

The good news is that the GIIAS 2022 series of events is not over yet. GIIAS The Series will present other strategic cities in Indonesia to present various products and the latest technology from dozens of well-known brands in the automotive industry. Starting with GIIAS Surabaya which will be held on 14—18 September 2022 at Grand City Convex, continue with GIIAS Medan on 5—9 October 2022 at Santika Premier Hotel and Convention, and close by GIIAS Makassar on 16—20 November 2022 at Celebes Convention Center.

The organizing committee plans GIIAS to be back next year on 10—20 August 2022 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten. “We expect the same support for the implementation of GIIAS 2023 from all brand holder agents (APM) of Gaikindo members and of course the Indonesian people so that the plan for holding GIIAS next year can be carried out properly,” concluded Rizwan.
