Heaptalk, Jakarta – Indonesia was shocked by the alleged data leak of 34 million Indonesian passports which was claimed to be traded online.
This issue started when a Twitter accounts @secgron or Teguh Aprianto posted a tweet stating that 34 million Indonesian passport data had just been leaked and traded last night (07/05). The data is claimed to contain passport numbers, name, valid date, date of birth, and gender in CSV format with the size of 4GB (compressed file) and 4GB (uncompressed file). The seller who was registered on behalf of Bjorka sells the data at USD10,000. The hacker also reportedly provides 1 million data as a sample.
For information, as cited in Kompas, the server of immigration department was placed at National Data Center (PDN) which was managed by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo). Until 2021, PDN has been utilized by 43 ministries/institutions, 9 provinces, 86 regencies, and 24 cities across Indonesia.
Responding to this incident, Kominfo’s General Director for Informatics Applications Semuel Pangerapan stated that the status of this issue is still under the investigation process. His team does not conclude yet about the validity of this information. This response was based on Kominfo’s last update on Wednesday 5 July, at 08 p.m.
During the investigation, Kominfo coordinates with the related party in accordance with applicable regulation, including National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), Directorate General of Immigration, and Ministry of Law and Human Right.
