Heaptalk, Jakarta — PLN has partnered with Utomo Charge+ and ACME Corporation, two providers of EV charging technologies to expand EV charging stations. This step reflects the company’s commitment to propelling the EV ecosystem in the country.
In collaboration with Utomo Charge+, PLN has agreed to develop centralized electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Meanwhile, PLN and ACME Corp will work together to develop and provide public electric vehicle charging stations, along with knowledge sharing, research, and development. Representatives from each entity signed the collaboration agreement during a panel discussion titled ‘Strategies for Accelerating EV Infrastructure in Indonesia’ at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF) 2024 at JCC (09/05).
On this occasion, Ferry Triansyah, Coordinator of Electrical Business Services at the Directorate General of Electricity, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), emphasized that the availability of adequate infrastructure is a key factor in encouraging the public to switch from conventional vehicles to EVs.
“With the help of PLN, charging stations have significantly increased. Hence, we are trying to address the public’s concerns about where charging infrastructure is available. This is one of the challenges that needs to be prepared and resolved by increasing or accelerating the development of charging stations,” said Ferry (09/05).
EV adoption reached 130,000 units
Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN, stated that the company is committed to supporting the government’s efforts to accelerate the EV ecosystem in Indonesia. As a power provider, PLN expands the availability of EV-supporting infrastructure to encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles. This is essential, considering that EVs are one of the keys in Indonesia’s energy transition roadmap towards Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060.
“PLN supports the growing adoption of EVs by continuously extending the availability of charging station infrastructure in multuple locations. One of the ways we do this is by collaborating with all partners involved in accelerating the energy transition in the transportation sector,” Darmawan said.
According to Hartanto Wibowo, Director of Corporate Planning and Business Development at PLN, EV adoption has reached more than 130,000 units as of April 2024, marking significant growth of over 180% compared to 2022. As of August 2024, there are 2,015 public charging stations (SPKLU).
This increase is followed by the growth of Battery Exchange Stations for Public Electric Vehicles (SPBKLU), which has reached 2,182 stations across Indonesia. “We’ve also successfully expanded our Home Charging services, with usage increasing 152 times compared to 2021, from 118 users to 18,000 users,” Hartanto added.
Additionally, PLN has integrated these various infrastructures into the EV Digital Services (EVDS) feature within the PLN Mobile app. This allows EV users to easily access SPKLU and SPBKLU locations, apply for Home Charging installations, and even purchase EVs.
