Heaptalk, Jakarta — PLN will soon operate the Jatigede Hydropower Plant (PLTA) in Sumedang Regency, West Java, by the end of this year. With a capacity of 2×55 megawatts (MW), the infrastructure is now in the final stages of construction.
According to Darmawan Prasodjo, PLN CEO, this hydropower plant demonstrates the company’s efforts to provide clean electricity to the public while increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix. This step aligns with their commitment to accelerating the energy transition to achieve net-zero emissions (NZE) by 2060 or sooner.
“The Jatigede Hydropower Plant is one solution for providing clean energy to the public. PLN will optimize the country’s abundant green energy potential. This aligns with our commitment to reaching NZE and ensuring a better future for the next generation,” Darmawan said.
Entering commercial operation
The Jatigede Hydropower Plant has completed performance and reliability tests for Units 1 and 2. Achmad Ismail, Acting General Manager of PLN‘s Central Java Construction Unit (UIP JBT), stated, “The Jatigede Hydropower Plant is now entering the commercial operation date (COD) phase. We ask for prayers that this process goes smoothly so that this clean energy can soon be available to customers.”
The plant has also received an operational feasibility certificate (SLO) after proving it can operate efficiently, safely, according to design, and reliably without unexpected disruptions. The certificate was obtained ahead of the original target of October 2024, now set for June 2024.
Meanwhile, Husni Wardhana, Manager of PLN’s Central Java Project Implementation Unit 2, confirmed that the transmission network for distributing electricity from the Jatigede Hydropower Plant has been completed. The plant will deliver electricity through the 150-kilovolt (kV) High Voltage Transmission Line Jatigede Incomer Line 1 to the 150 kV New Kadipaten Substation and SUTT 150 kV Jatigede Incomer Line 2 to the 150 kV New Sunyaragi Substation.
“Regarding power distribution from the Jatigede Hydropower Plant, it will be transmitted through the 150 kV Jatigede Incomer line, which was successfully energized (first voltage) at the end of August. This means the construction is completed, and we are only waiting for the commercial operation process,” Husni concluded.
