Besides gaining a 10% share of Anthropic, Google allows this AI startup to use its cloud infrastructure to establish reliable and interpretable AI systems.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Google Cloud is reported to pour an investment worth US$400 million, or nearly Rp6 trillion (US$1 equals Rp15,046), into the Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup based in the United States, Anthropic. From this strategic investment, Google will obtain 10% stock of Anthropic startup.
This investment agreement also ruddles a new alliance of these technology companies, aiming to enhance computing systems. Anthropic will leverage Google Cloud’s cutting-edge GPU and TPU clusters to educate, scale, and implement its AI systems. In addition, Athropic will also use Google’s cloud computing service.
“Our strategic partnership is an outstanding example of how we assist users and businesses in utilizing an Artificial Intelligence technology reliably and responsibly,” affirmed the Chief Officer Executive of Google Cloud, Thomas Kurian, cited in the verge.
Anthropic focuses on developing and deploying Claude and AI assistants based on the company’s research into building safe, steerable AI technology. This startup has created safety techniques like Consistutional AI to create AI technologies that are easier to rely on and understand. This company is also predicted to become a ChatGPT rival.
“We are partnering with Google Cloud to contribute to the next phase of Anthropic, where we will employ AI systems of the company to a more extensive set of people. This business partnership provides us with the needed cloud infrastructure performance and scale,” the CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, said in a statement.
As the New York Times noted, Anthropic’s latest investment round engenders the company’s total valuation worth US$5 billion. Previously, the Crunchbase data recorded this startup raised capital worth US$704 million across Series A and Series B funding rounds in 2022.
Separately, Cited in bisnis.com, Google’s CEO perceived that AI technology has evolved from academic research to the most significant driving factor for the technology transformation, which automatically unlocks new opportunities for service evolution in every industry. For this reason, he claimed Google Cloud affords an open infrastructure for the next generation of AI startups.
