Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s agri-tech HiFeed closes pre-seed funding for an undisclosed amount led by Wavemaker Impact (WMi). This injection will be allocated to expedite the development of technologies to transform cattle farming into a more sustainable and environmentally friendly industry.
Aiming to tackle climate change issues, HiFeed creates advanced technologies and strategies designed to mitigate the environmental impact of cattle farming. By focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, mainly methane, this startup intends to set new standards for sustainable agricultural practices.
According to Ihsan Akhirulsyah, Founder and CEO of HiFeed, cattle farming plays a crucial role in global food production and significantly contributes to environmental degradation. He said that the funding support from Wavemaker Impact brings the company closer to revolutionizing this sector.
“Our goal is to offer solutions that reduce emissions and enhance productivity, making decarbonizing both achievable and profitable for farmers globally,” Akhirulsyah affirmed.
The company claimed that cattle farming is responsible for 9% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with methane being a significant concern due to its potent warming effects. HiFeed is actively working to minimize these emissions through innovations in feed efficiency and sustainable farming practices that balance environmental responsibilities with economic needs.
HiFeed’s solutions address critical challenges in the livestock industry, specifically in improving average daily growth (ADG) through high-performance and cost-effective feed. The company’s approach centers around three key pillars:
- Methane Mitigation Technologies: Developing feeds with anti-methanogenic properties and advancing digestive technologies to minimize methane emissions.
- Sustainable Feed Solutions: Investing in research to produce nutrient-rich, environmentally friendly feed options that reduce the carbon intensity of cattle farming.
- Carbon Insetting Tools: Offering farmers tools to measure and reduce carbon emissions, aiding them in achieving net-zero targets while boosting profitability.
Looking forward, HiFeed plans to expand its research and development capabilities, enhance its technological framework, and scale its solutions to support farmers in crucial agricultural regions.
“The initial outcome of HiFeed’s pilot projects shows promising improvements in feed cost efficiency and cattle growth rates. With the team’s expertise in agritech, we are confident that this startup can transform food systems across Southeast Asia and beyond,” Wavemaker Impact’s principal, Guillem Segarra, said.
