Heaptalk, Jakarta — Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) ensures that its system has not been affected by a ransomware attack by the Bashe group.
BRI’s Director of Digital and Information Technology, Arga M. Nugraha, said the company had conducted a thorough assessment and found no ransomware threat to the system. “Further assessment also shows that the data published is not from BRI’s system,” Arga said in a written press release on Wednesday (12/25).
Arga emphasized that all BRI banking services and systems operate regularly without disruption. He said, “We always ensure the security of customer data is maintained,” he said. “BRI expresses gratitude for the trust and loyalty of customers to continue transacting through various banking services.”
Teguh Aprianto, a Cyber Security Consultant, also said the data presented by the Bashe Ransomware group was not convincing. “Since the attached data is not convincing enough, we chose not to publish anything related to this incident. Hence, is it true that BRI is a ransomware victim?” Teguh said it on his X account @secgron, which was quoted on Wednesday (12/25).
Teguh eventually waited for Bashe Ransomware to release a BRI data sample after claiming to have successfully carried out the attack. The hacker group then gave a deadline of December 24, 2024, to leak BRI customer data. “The data content is just one Excel file containing only 100 rows of data that match one of the documents on Scribd and pdfcoffee. Let’s give a round of applause for Bashe, the funniest ransomware group of all time,” Teguh concluded.
