Heaptalk, Jakarta — Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), Meutya Hafid has firmly denied allegations that Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) was the victim of a ransomware attack.
“This statement is intended to refute circulating claims on social media suggesting that BRI was targeted by ransomware,” Meutya clarified in a recent press release.
According to Meutya, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs issued the denial following coordination with the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN).
“After coordinating with BSSN, it was confirmed that no hacking incidents occurred, meaning a cyberattack has caused no data breach,” she stated.
The Minister also urged the public to remain cautious and avoid relying on unverified information, particularly from dubious social media accounts. Meutya encouraged relying on credible, registered news outlets for accurate information.
“While social media can provide information, it’s essential to cross-check with reputable mainstream media to verify if there has been a data breach,” she advised.
Speculation about a ransomware attack on BRI first emerged on social media platforms such as X/Twitter. One account, @FalconFeedsio, which claims to be a cybersecurity firm, alleged that Bashe Ransomware had targeted BRI.
However, BRI has categorically denied these claims. Corporate Secretary Agustya Hendy Bernadi conveyed, “BRI guarantees the safety of customer data and funds, and banking services are operating normally.”
