Heaptalk, Jakarta — The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, is optimistic that the member countries of the Developing Eight have transformative power. He made this statement during the plenary session of the 11th D-8 Summit at the Presidential Palace in the New Administrative Capital, Cairo, Egypt.
“We must realize that the D-8 indeed holds great potential. Overall, the D-8 represents the third-largest economic growth globally with a combined GDP of US$4.81 trillion in 2023,” Prabowo said.
President Prabowo also highlighted the organization’s significant potential in advancing the welfare of its member societies. One way to do this is by utilizing the blue economy as a pillar of strategic cooperation. He added, “All D-8 countries are uniquely positioned to leverage the benefits and resources of the blue economy. This is very strategic cooperation.”
Additionally, President Prabowo encouraged the implementation of preferential trade agreements and strengthened the halal value chain through the organization’s halal economic network. According to him, the organization should be more than solely an economic bloc; it should be an inclusive, fair global movement considering collective welfare. “We must also continue to advocate for a more equal global order based on international law, inclusivity, justice, and collective welfare,” Prabowo emphasized.
In conclusion, President Prabowo invited the leaders of the member countries to make the organization a catalyst for positive change. He also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening inter-country collaboration and promoting economic growth for the welfare of the people. “Let’s make the D-8 organization a hope for all nations and the world,” he concluded.
