Heaptalk, Jakarta — Conventional economic activities focused on short-term profits have led to climate crises, environmental degradation, social inequality, and biodiversity loss. The transition toward sustainable economic development has become an inevitable global responsibility, requiring close international cooperation.
“Stronger global regulations and binding commitments are essential in this effort. Therefore, we continue strengthening international cooperation through strategic partnerships and multilateral initiatives. One such initiative is today’s forum, which allows world leaders and global experts to discuss and find solutions together,” emphasized Vice President Ma’ruf Amin during his speech at the Gala Dinner of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF) 2024 at Plaza Barat, National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta, recently.
In greater detail, Indonesia is making various efforts to achieve sustainable development, one of which is mitigating the global climate crisis. Ma’ruf stated, “Indonesia, as part of the global community, is highly committed to actively contributing to the efforts to mitigate the global climate crisis, with full dedication to the Paris Agreement and the vision of reaching Net Zero Emissions by 2060.”
He added that strategic steps such as strengthening environmental regulations, investing in renewable energy, and cooperating in natural resource management at the international level are continuously being implemented.
Furthermore, solar and geothermal energy projects have provided electricity access to thousands of households in Indonesia and serve as models for other countries. The government’s focus on empowerment and creating green jobs is expected to yield long-term benefits for the community. Ma’ruf emphasized, “The government also has another focus, which is green growth through local community empowerment, creating green jobs, and promoting sustainable farming practices that consider ecosystem balance.”
In his closing remarks, Ma’ruf expressed his hope that this year’s IISF would be fully utilized to achieve sustainable green growth and benefit everyone worldwide. “I hope this event produces tangible solutions that lead the international community towards a prosperous and just life. Finally, I wish you all an enjoyable dinner filled with friendship and the warmth of Indonesian culture,” Ma’ruf concluded.
