This step is part of the smart city program, bearing in mind that currently there are still several areas with limited access to information.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Government of East Kutai Regency through the Department of Communication and Informatics, Statistics and Encryption (Diskominfo Staper) presented plans to build a digital literacy center (06/19).
Taking place in the Department’s Meeting Room, this plan was presented before representatives of regional apparatus organizations throughout East Kutai. This activity was also held through the Zoom online platform which was attended by district government representatives and the Director of PT Enam Kubuku Indonesia and his staff as partners of the National Library.
Head of the East Kutai Communication and Informatics, Statistics and Encryption Department, Ery Mulyadi, said that the construction of a digital literacy center is part of the smart city development program. According to him, it is important to take this step immediately considering that currently there are several areas in East Kutai where access to information is limited.
“As a carrying capacity, currently all villages in 18 districts already have internet access. Apart from providing services to the community, the provision of internet access can also be used to increase knowledge through digital literacy,” said Ery.
The existence of this digital literacy center is expected to be an information center that can gather general knowledge. Besides, this place will also be focused on providing information related to specific knowledge, for example for students.
In addition, Ery also appreciated and thanked PT Enam Kubuku Indonesia for partnering with East Kutai Diskominfo in building a digital literacy center. He stated, ” The success of this program cannot be separated from the support of all parties, including elements of the government, from villages to districts.”
Meanwhile, the Director of PT Enam Kubuku Indonesia, Arie Kustanto, explained that his party has multiple programs and experience to assist the public in obtaining information services digitally. This company has focused on literacy, primarily digital libraries since 2016.
Arie conveyed that with the existence of reading points, the community and readers can get closer and easily access information. Further, this is expected to boost reading interest in Indonesia. “One of the programs that have been implemented in several educational institutions is reading points that are suitable to be placed in public facilities, school libraries, villages, districts, universities, and also in frontier, outermost, and least developed areas,” concluded Arie.
