JAKARTA – The Indonesian Government has officially kicked off preparations for the nation’s largest international trade event, the 41st Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026. Minister of Trade Budi Santoso (popularly known as Mendag Busan) has set a bold transaction target of USD 17.5 billion for the exhibition, which is scheduled to take place at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City.
Themed “The Ultimate Hub for Global Sourcing,” the 41st TEI will run from October 14–18, 2026, in Tangerang, Banten.
Optimism Fueled by Past Performance
Speaking at the launch event at the Ministry of Trade office in Jakarta on Thursday (Feb 26), Minister Budi expressed strong optimism regarding the new target. This confidence stems from the remarkable success of the previous year’s expo.
”Last year’s TEI target was USD 16.5 billion, but we successfully realized USD 22.83 billion. For 2026, we have raised the bar to USD 17.5 billion. We are confident that with more comprehensive preparation, we will once again exceed this goal,” the Minister stated.
The launch was attended by high-ranking officials, including Vice Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri and Director General of National Export Development Fajarini Puntodewi, alongside representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs.
A Three-Phase Integrated Strategy
To ensure the effectiveness of the 2026 expo, the Ministry of Trade is implementing a strategic three-phase approach that extends beyond the physical event:
- Pre-Exhibition: Early-stage business matching facilitated by Indonesia’s trade representatives abroad (ITPCs and Trade Attachés).
- During Exhibition: Focusing on the finalization of deals and high-value transactions.
- Post-Exhibition: Rigorous monitoring and assistance in trade contract fulfillment.
”We facilitate business matching as early as possible. By the time buyers arrive at TEI 2026, they are often ready for finalization. In fact, transactions may even occur before the expo officially begins,” Minister Budi added.
Specialized Zones and “Buyer Hospitality”
Director General Fajarini Puntodewi revealed that the expo will occupy 10 halls at ICE BSD, categorized into five flagship sectors:
- Food & Agricultural Products (including a specialized hall for Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa).
- Manufactured Products.
- Industrial Estates.
- Fashion & Crafts.
- Furniture & Home Décor (occupying two dedicated halls due to high global demand).
To attract premium international buyers, the organizer, PT Debindomulti Adhiswasti, is launching a “Buyer Hospitality” program. Director Vibiadhi Swasti Pradana announced that they will provide 250 complimentary hotel rooms for curated international buyers.
”This is a concrete incentive to attract new, high-potential buyers. We are also collaborating with global exhibitions such as the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) and the Global Sourcing Expo in Australia to exchange buyer networks,” Vibiadhi explained.
Empowering SMEs for the Global Stage
The 2026 expo also serves as a critical platform for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The Indonesian Retail Merchants Association (Aprindo) reaffirmed its commitment to showcasing curated SME products, aiming to help local businesses “go global.”
With integrated logistics, strategic international partnerships, and a focus on sustainable manufacturing, the 41st Trade Expo Indonesia is poised to strengthen Indonesia’s role in the global supply chain and drive significant national economic growth.
