Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s telco company Telkomsel and Huawei launched their first 5G standalone (SA) technology deployment. This measure is a part of technological breakthroughs to propel industry digitalization, specifically in the seaport industry ecosystem,

Telkomsel will provide 5G SA technology with Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions to support digital transformation in port operations by delivering end-to-end industrial use cases, spanning Cloud Phone (toC) and Redcap devices (toH) to artificial intelligence (AI) for ports (toB). The collaboration became Indonesia’s first digital telco company to embrace 5G SA technology, powered by mobile private networks (MPNs), network slicing, and edge computing.

“We are committed to continuously upgrading our service capacity by adopting new technologies to provide the best experience for our customers. By harnessing the power of technological advancements, we aim to ensure that the people of Indonesia can enjoy more benefits, positioning our country as a digital infrastructure leader in Southeast Asia,” Telkomsel’s Director of Network, Indra Mardiatna, said.

Using the 5G SA technology, Telkomsel will bring a Smart Port use case covering cloud phone technology, RedCap devices, and AI that integrates state-of-the-art surveillance technology operating on the 5G network to create a higher level of security and operational efficiency with the support of the Mobile Private Network (MPN).

The latest cloud phone technology will support cloud-based virtual phones to explore new business models for work efficiency for workers in the seaport management system, which requires high levels of information security and real-time response to data operations. Besides, the AI detection system, which features high-definition video on a real-time basis, enables thorough surveillance of the seaport complex and a quick response against any accidents or potential security disturbances.

“Over the past five years, 5G has driven rapid changes in the industry, networks, and technologies with more matured and custom-tailored use case possibilities which are almost endless, providing many avenues for monetization. Moving forward, Huawei will continue to pursue many innovations in many areas to assist operators
and partners in fostering a thriving industry ecosystem through relentless innovation to bring the world faster to a new era of commercial 5G.”
Director of Huawei Indonesia ICT Marketing and Solution Sales Dept, Wang Xiaming, said.
