Microsoft will embed OpenAI’s chatbot technology, ChatGPT, into Teams premium with a subscription fee of $7 per month starting in June to simplify meetings.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Microsoft Corp released a premium Teams messaging service integrated with the AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, ChatGPT, as reported by Reuters (02/01).
Embedding ChatGPT into Teams aims to simplify meetings as it will automatically generate meeting notes and recommend tasks. In addition, the AI chatbot will also help create meeting templates for Teams users.
Further, Teams equipped with ChatGPT can be accessed by customers for $7 per month in June 2023. Afterward, Microsoft plans to increase the subscription fee to $10 in July.
The incorporation of ChatGPT into premium Teams followed Microsoft‘s announcement of the investment of a multi-billion dollar in OpenAI in January 2023. The company said that it will be adding ChatGPT technology to all of its products, including Teams.
The collaboration aims to enable both parties to independently commercialize the resulting advanced AI technologies. “We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform,” said the Chairman and CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella when announcing the third phase of partnership with OpenAI in January 2023.
OpenAI monetizes ChatGPT Plus
Meanwhile, ChatGPT started monetizing its service through subscription plans starting at $20 per month, as reported by TechCrunch. This paid package, namely ChatGPT Plus, delivers multiple benefits beyond ChatGPT base level, including general access to the platform during peak times. Customers also have access to faster response and priority access to new features and improvements.
For the moment, the paid version of ChatGPT will be available to customers in the US only. OpenAI will begin to invite people from its waitlist over the coming week to try the Plus version. The company also plans to expand access and support of ChatGPT Plus to additional countries and regions soon. However, worldwide users still can access the free version.
“We launched ChatGPT as a research preview so we could learn more about the system’s strengths and weaknesses and gather user feedback to help us improve upon its limitations,” stated OpenAI on its official blog (02/01). Therefore, the company made several important updates based on the feedback given.
Apart from that, OpenAI saw users find value across a range of professional cases, including drafting and editing content, brainstorming ideas, programming help, and learning new topics.
