Heaptalk, Jakarta — Meta announced its plan to release a new video editing app, Edits, following the removal of ByteDance’s CapCut from Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store as part of the US TikTok ban. The app will be launched on March 13, 2025, on iOS, with an Android version following later.
Edits is designed for those passionate about making videos on the phone, aiming to be the best possible tool for creators. This app addresses people’s need to create short-form videos for Instagram or other platforms, not for those using desktop apps or looking for templates. Adam Mosseri, Instagram head, claimed that Edits will be more than a video editing app as it offers a full suite of creative tools.
“There will be a dedicated tab for inspiration, another to keep track of any early ideas you might have, a much higher quality camera which I used to record this video, all the editing tools you’d expect, the ability to share drafts with friends and other creators, and, if you decide to share your videos on Instagram, powerful insights on how those videos do,” he said on his Threads’ account (01/19).
The tech giant has been working with creators on this for a couple of months now. Over the next few weeks, it will bring more creators into the fold, collect more feedback, and continue iterating on the product. “The first version is going to be incomplete, so please be patient, but I’m really excited to put this in all your hands,” Mosseri concluded.
