Heaptalk, Jakarta — PLN announced it has developed an integrated charging station connected directly to the EV feature on the PLN Mobile app in the 2024 GIIAS. Presenting this innitiation, PLN aims to accelerate Indonesia’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem by providing extensive charging station infrastructure.
“We at PLN are committed to developing infrastructure, especially charging stations, hoping EV users feel comfortable. When they feel safe and know they can charge their vehicles anywhere, they will be more confident in using EVs,” said Edi Srimulyanti, Director of Retail and Commerce at PLN, during the Charging Station Infrastructure in Indonesia sharing session organized by Hyundai Motors Indonesia at GIIAS 2024, Ice BSD Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday (07/23).
Edi stated that the company continues to expand the presence of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU), Public Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Stations (SPBKLU), and home charging services integrated into PLN Mobile.
From 2021 to 2024, PLN has increased the number of SPKLUs 5.6 times to 1,582 units. Home charging services have also increased 130 times to 14,524 units. The number of SPLUs has grown 1.2 times to 9,956, while the number of SPBKLUs has doubled 8 times to 2,182. The presence of 1,582 SPKLUs is a collaboration between PLN and 27 partners spread across 1,131 locations throughout Indonesia, with 990 SPKLUs owned by PLN and 592 SKLUs owned by partners.
PLN is open to collaborating with all parties to develop SPKLUs in other locations. Edi voiced, “The development also requires collaboration with all stakeholders, such as hotel owners, office parking areas, and malls. We are ready to collaborate. We will prepare charging stations in strategic locations that make charging easy for users.”
In 2024, PLN also initiated using utility poles as SPKLU media, known as SPKLU Poles, with 1,000 units. Besides physical infrastructure, the EV feature on the PLN Mobile app allows electric vehicle users to easily find charging stations and obtain various incentives and attractive promotions. “We have integrated it all in one place. It is very easy and fast if you want to apply for new electricity installations for home charging. There are even incentives such as discounts on new installations and tariff discounts,” Edi added.
PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia CEO Fransiscus Soerjopranoto appreciated PLN’s full support in accelerating the development of electric vehicles in the country. According to him, the EV ecosystem cannot function without electricity and charging stations. With PLN’s electrical support, Frans stated that Hyundai Motors Indonesia is ready to collaborate with PLN to add up to 1,500 charging units across 1,000 locations.
Herman (60), one of the EV users, said that the increasing presence of charging stations makes him more confident in using electric vehicles. Besides reducing carbon emissions, Herman said electric vehicles also have many advantages over fuel-powered vehicles. “No odd-even restrictions, cheaper vehicle registration, the car is more comfortable to drive, lighter, quieter, and charging is cheaper than expensive gasoline,” Herman concluded.
