Heaptalk, Jakarta — VinFast’s subsidiary Xanh SM has officially launched its electric taxi service in Indonesia. In its early operation, the company aimed to operate about 10,000 EV taxis in 2025.
According to the Global CEO of Green and Smart Mobility (GSM), Nguyen Van Thanh, Indonesia is a fascinating market with an accelerating shift toward green and smart mobility solutions. Indonesia’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2060 aligns seamlessly with our mission to lead global transportation electrification.
“The targeted number of taxis to be operational will depend on market conditions. However, we intend to deploy approximately 10,000 units across Indonesia next year.” Van Thanh voiced.
As is known, Indonesia is the third SEA country to welcome the Xanh SM expansion, following Vietnam and Laos. Officially operated in the archipelago, specifically in Jakarta, the entire fleet consists of VinFast’s VF e34 Limogreen electric cars, offering emission-free, noise-free, and fuel-odor-free rides. This ensures that every trip is comfortable, safe, and environmentally friendly. Besides operating in Jakarta, Xanh will expand to Bali as a further market expansion.
“As we work to expedite the transition to clean energy, services like this are key in reducing emissions, improving air quality, and contributing to the broader objectives of a sustainable, low-carbon economy. I am confident that this launch will inspire more investments in the green economy, unlocking opportunities for innovation and job creation in the country. I look forward to seeing how Xanh SM’s ride-hailing service will continue to grow and contribute to the broader goal of building a resilient green economy for Indonesia,” Deputy of Investment Climate Development of Investment and Downstream Ministry, Riyatno, conveyed during the launch. To ensure passengers’ safety, Xanh SM completed a trial phase involving 100 electric cars and approximately 40,000 passengers. For charging solutions, the company employs a two-pronged approach: establishing in-house depot facilities and partnering with VGreen, a prominent charging infrastructure provider.
The Ambassador of Vietnam to Indonesia, Ta Van Thong, said that this two-way trade between Vietnam and Indonesia is projected to reach US$15 billion and has set a new target of about US$18 billion to achieve in a couple of years to come.
“I hope that with the success of VinFast and Xanh SM, many Vietnamese businesses will follow in coming to Indonesia to contribute to the prosperous development of Indonesia,” he concluded.
