The 2024 holiday retail survey will provide a closer look at consumer preferences and shopping trends shaping the upcoming holiday retail season. The survey, conducted among the YouCam app user community, revealed key insights into buyer behavior and the increasing role of technology in enhancing retail experiences.
One of the findings in this report is the trend of budget-conscious shopping. Most consumers, 66%, plan to reduce spending this holiday season. Consumers focus on product value and savings in response to current economic challenges.
Preferring in-person and online shopping
As many as 60% of consumers prefer in-person and online shopping, the trend of omnichannel flexibility is emerging. This behavior is possible since they value the convenience of shopping from home while receiving assistance from in-store shopping assistants.
However, consumers face significant challenges when shopping online, such as the inability to try products before buying (34%). Online shoppers also complain about complicated return processes (22%) and too many product choices (15%).
On the other hand, the survey results show a demand for personalization. As many as 23% of consumers want virtual try-on tools, while 26% appreciate AI-based virtual assistants. Personalized experiences are increasingly becoming a primary need, with consumers expecting tailored recommendations and interactive tools.
Increased AI adoption
The trend also shows that AI adoption is increasing. As many as 52% of consumers already use or plan to use AI in their shopping, indicating a shift towards AI normalization. AI tools such as chatbots and predictive analytics are key to enhancing the shopping experience.
