In addition to stopping JD.ID services in Indonesia, JD.com, is also reported to impede its business operations in Thailand in the first quarter of 2023.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — An e-commerce platform JD.ID has officially ceased its entire operations by the end of March 2023. Previously, the company has no longer accepted an order since February 15th, 2023.

As a result, the official sites of JD.ID has been diverted to a Chinese language page with the website address global.jd.com. On the other hand, the goods posted on the web are peddled using Chinese currency. The company has also deprived JD.ID mobile application in the PlayStore (Android) and Apple Store (iOS).

Cited in katadata, the Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs of JD.ID, Setya Yudha Indaswara, admitted the termination of the company’s operations in Indonesian is a strategic decision from JD.com.

“This determination is the strategic move of JD.com to continue to evolve around the International market, with the primary focus on the cross-border supply chain network construction. Logistics and warehousing are considered as the core business,” added Setya.

Before ceasing its overall services in Indonesia, JD.ID terminated 30% of the workforce or around 200 employees in December 2022 as the adaptation endeavor to encounter current business obstacles, particularly in the technology companies worldwide. Besides, an affiliated logistics company, JDL Express, officially ended its operations in January 2023.

As information, JD.ID is a subsidiary of one of Asia’s most outstanding online stores, JD.com. Based on the Price data, this e-commerce platform once occupied the 10th position as an online store platform with the most considerable traffic in Indonesia,  such as Tokopedia, Shopee, and Blibli, as well as other sites, including Klik Indomaret, Zalora, and Orami.

Even though this platform is classified as a new marketplace in Indonesia, the business leap of JD.ID has elevated rapidly, reaching 365 cities throughout Indonesia and international market networks such as Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.

Nevertheless, the turbulence of the global economy and the spike in inflation worldwide has forced this e-commerce to exit the Indonesian market. Apart from stopping its business operations in Indonesia, JD.com is also reported to impede its business operations in Thailand in the first quarter of 2023.
