Heaptalk, Jakarta – Indonesia-based technology company, Tokopedia recently organized a tech boot camp called Devcamp 2022.
Head of Engineering of Tokopedia, Gilang Kusuma Jati, who also served as the mentor in Devcamp 2022, explained, “Through Devcamp, Tokopedia strives to generate more excellent digital talent who create impactful innovation for people. This measure is performed to advance the country’s technology industry and to achieve digital economic equity in Indonesia” (10/25).
Employing ‘Improving the Quality of Life through Technology’ as the theme, the online intensive, comprehensive training program was carried out on October 10th-16th, 2022. Gilang added this program is aligned with the government’s commitment to prepare 9 million digital talents and achieve the archipelago’s target, namely couping 113 million digital talents in 2030.
Tokopedia reported that the people’s enthusiasm for this boot camp remains high, proven by the increase in registered participants, which has grown 1.5 times compared to last year. Women’s participation in this digital training also escalates two times this year.
In its implementation, this program is devoted to final-year students or fresh graduates with less than 2 years of experience. Participants who pass the selection process will obtain several benefits, including intensive training, networking, mentorship, and a virtual hackathon (a challenge to create a solution in the form of a product promptly).
In a virtual hackathon, Tokopedia has chosen three winners based on three categories, spanning Best Problem, Best Solution, and Best Technology. The winners have been rewarded a total price of Rp90 million.
Software Engineer of Tokopedia, and also the winner of Devcamp 2021, Audrey Datau, stated, “I got valuable experiences and knowledge in Devcamp 2021 that are very practical in the working environment, specifically in technology company such as Tokopedia. In addition to improving hard skills, I also learn how to cooperate with others, building collaboration and communication.”
Devcamp is one of the initiatives under the auspices of Tokopedia Academy. This boot camp is expected to be a place to enhance the capability of Indonesia’s digital talent. As additional information, Tokopedia Academi has organized multiple programs, such as Start Summit, Women in Tech, Start CX F1RST Summit, and Tokopedia Goes to Campus. Tokopedia also has collaborated with universities, such as Telkom University and Brawijaya University, in building a curriculum that keeps up with the latest technology.
