Heaptalk, Jakarta — Prominent preacher Maulana Habiburrahman, widely known as Gus Miftah, was summoned by Indonesia’s President-elect Prabowo Subianto to his residence in Jalan Kertanegara, South Jakarta.
After the meeting, Gus Miftah revealed that while he would not be taking on the role of Deputy Minister, Prabowo had requested that he focus on promoting tolerance and moderation in society.
“It’s clear that I won’t be a deputy minister. Prabowo has assigned me to concentrate more on issues related to tolerance and moderation,” Gus Miftah stated.
Although he did not specify the institution where he would serve, Gus Miftah indicated that the organization would be dedicated to addressing these issues. “What’s clear is that the president has entrusted me with the responsibility of focusing on matters of tolerance and moderation,” he added.
Gus Miftah, known for his close ties with Prabowo, has long counseled him, particularly during the campaign. Prabowo frequently visited the Ora Aji Islamic boarding school, where Gus Miftah serves, seeking his guidance.
Throughout the presidential campaign, Gus Miftah praised Prabowo’s policies, likening them to the teachings of the prophets. He emphasized that he wasn’t just a supporter but also someone who would hold Prabowo accountable for fulfilling his campaign promises.
“I’ve told Prabowo since the beginning that I’m brave enough to vote for you, and I’m brave enough to hold you accountable.’ It’s not just about voting; you have to be ready to demand the fulfillment of campaign promises,” Gus Miftah said.
The 42-year-old preacher clarified that his focus is not on securing a political position. “It doesn’t matter to me what position I hold if Prabowo becomes president; that’s unimportant,” he explained.
“What’s more important is ensuring that the elected President’s program aligns with his commitment during the campaign period. That is what we will make sure of,” he concluded.
