Jokowi delivered that the national furniture industry has only recorded revenues of US$2.8 billion in 2022, which ranks 17th and 4th globally in the Asian region.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s President, Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, inaugurated the opening of the IFFINA, Indonesia Meubel and Design Expo 2023, which is held in the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang.
In his opening remarks, Jokowi said that people should be grateful that Indonesia has many excellence in raw materials, human resources, and the rich arts and culture in the archipelago. From these existing potentials, the President observes these factors could be the primary modality in improving the furniture industry severely, expecting to lead the market globally.
The furniture and crafts industry has had significant GDP growth over the last six years. Moreover, the global furniture market is promising, with revenues of US$695 billion in 2022 and projected to climb to US$766 billion by 2023. Nevertheless, compared to Indonesia, this seventh president of the archipelago highlighted that the national furniture industry has only recorded revenues of US$2.8 billion in 2022, which globally ranks 17th and 4th in the Asian region, lower than China, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
“I consider numerous matters we need to improve, one of which is improving partnership business schemes with other foreign companies. For this reason, I want local companies to be more open to collaborating with furniture companies from abroad, such as Europe, the United States, and China. We have to be open; don’t own the company on yourself,” The President affirmed. (09/14)
Jokowi emphasized that the government encourages the domestic market to be independent of foreign furniture products. Therefore, Jokowi hopes Indonesian furniture production can be immediately registered in the e-catalog to facilitate the trading process and encourage domestic furniture entrepreneurs to establish partnership business models with foreign furniture companies.
As additional information, the implementation of the 10th IFFINA 2023 will be held on September 14th – 17th, 2023. Adopting The New Sourcing Circle in Asia as the theme, this furniture exhibition features 298 exhibitors from related sectors’ iconic products, spanning furniture, craft, project design, homeware, home fabric, and decorative. Aiming to support Indonesia’s furniture industry by export value enhancement, this exhibition targets to attract 10,000 visitors from 52 countries.
