Heaptalk, Jakarta — The high cost of domestic airfare in Indonesia, which exceeds international ticket prices, has become a primary concern of the Merah Putih Cabinet under President Prabowo’s administration.
“The Task Force to Reduce Airfare, initially established under the seventh President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo administration and led by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, will now be under the leadership of Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development, as the ministry is no longer part of President Prabowo’s cabinet,” stated Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
Furthermore, Airlangga explained that the Task Force sets domestic airface regulations. This task force will closely coordinate with relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Transportation and other related agencies, to ensure affordability and accessibility.
After assuming control of the Task Force, AHY met with the Chairman of the National Economic Council, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, to discuss further strategies to lower domestic airfares. Previously, Luhut, in his role as Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, had led the National Airfare Supervision Task Force to address this issue. These continued efforts aim to create a lasting solution to the high cost of domestic airfare, thereby improving accessibility to air transportation for the Indonesian public.
