The ASEANpedia e-book is published by Kominfo to serve as a reference in finding various information about ASEAN and the ASEAN Indonesia Chairmanship 2023.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) launched an electronic book entitled ASEANpedia as part of Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2023 activities (04/10).
Containing articles, infographics, and videos, this e-book is a living document that will be continually updated according to the dynamics of implementing the agenda of Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2023.
The Director General of Information and Public Communication at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Usman Kansong, stated that ASEANpedia would be a source of knowledge about ASEAN as well as a reference for instilling attitudes among the public regarding ASEAN’s contribution to the region’s geopolitics and geo-economy.
“The theme for the ASEAN Indonesia Chairmanship 2023 is ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth. This book is expected to provide an understanding to the public that ASEAN is relevant to contributing to becoming a center of world economic growth,” said Usman in Central Jakarta (04/10).
Further, Usman expects that this e-book can become a reference in finding various information about ASEAN and the ASEAN Indonesia Chairmanship 2023. He voiced, “This book is interesting as it is able to inform ASEAN’s geoeconomic and geopolitical success using modest language.”
Divided into three major chapters
The information presented in ASEANpedia is divided into three major chapters, spanning general information on ASEAN, Indonesia’s role in ASEAN, and the Chairmanship of Indonesia in ASEAN 2023. This e-book is displayed in two languages, Indonesian and English.
In the first chapter, ASEANPedia invites readers to look at the history of ASEAN. This e-book clearly and chronologically reviews the origins of the formation of this organization of countries in the Southeast Asia region, spanning the Bangkok Declaration and the ASEAN Charter as well as the requirements for membership and the title of its official song. This chapter also discusses the role of this organization in the world.
The second chapter of ASEANPedia explains Indonesia’s international role. The explanation includes the actions of Adam Malik who was the central figure of ASEAN’s founder. This chapter also describes Indonesia’s role in reconciling numerous conflicts involving member countries, including Vietnam-Cambodia, Thailand-Cambodia, and the Philippines and MNLF conflicts.
Lastly, the third chapter analyses multiple matters related to the ASEAN Indonesia Chairmanship 2023, spanning the vision and mission, the meaning of the theme and logo, as well as the summit location.
“The information in ASEANpedia will be updated continuously according to the needs and the latest information developments,” said Usman. He hopes that the ASEANpedia e-book will become a reference for mass media workers in seeking information about the entire series of activities for Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN 2023.
