Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) continues supporting the optimization of migrant worker protection efforts led by the Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI), also known as the Agency for Migrant Worker Protection (BP2MI). Aligned with this role, the PANRB Ministry will enhance the apparatus’s governance, institutional structure, and human resource development.
“I discussed with Minister P2MI about strengthening policies for migrant worker protection. The PANRB Ministry will play a key role in supporting the strategies to be implemented by Minister P2MI,” said Minister PANRB Rini Widyantini after meeting with P2MI Minister and BP2MI Head Abdul Kadir Karding in Jakarta. Minister Rini highlighted that under Presidential Decree No. 133/P of 2024, which establishes the State Ministries and appoints the State Ministers of the Merah Putih Cabinet for the 2024-2029 period, President Prabowo has formed the Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI/BP2MI).
This ministry handles the government’s responsibility for protecting Indonesian migrant workers, part of the national labor affairs framework. Its establishment reflects the President’s policies regarding migrant worker protection, as outlined in his Asta Cita program.
“The Ministry sets to support within our jurisdiction to realize Asta Cita, particularly in strengthening the protection of Indonesian labor abroad,” Rini affirmed.
During the meeting, P2MI Minister and BP2MI Head Abdul Kadir Karding noted tremendous challenges in addressing migrant worker issues. He outlined his department’s focus on refining recruitment processes for migrant workers, improving the management of vocational training institutions (LPK), and enhancing migrant worker skills and competencies.
“President Prabowo’s directive for migrant workers is twofold: prevent exploitation and increase national revenue. We are translating these directives by improving the end-to-end management of migrant worker protection from start to finish,” he explained.
Minister Abdul Kadir Karding hopes that support from the PANRB Ministry, particularly in strengthening governance, institutional capacity, and human resources, will enable P2MI/BP2MI to perform its duties effectively and efficiently.
“With the support of the PANRB Ministry, we believe we can receive maximum assistance for our institutional structuring. We hope to work faster, with greater unity, and to meet the targets set by the President,” he concluded.
