Food creation competition is part of an effort to diversify food consumption through the Diverse, Nutritious, Balanced, and Safe (B2SA) program in East Kutai.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The East Kutai Food Security Department (DKP) in collaboration with the Regency Mobilization Team of Family Welfare Empowerment (TP PKK) will hold a food menu creation competition. Involving representatives of all districts, this activity is part of an effort to diversify food consumption through the program of Diverse, Nutritious, Balanced, and Safe which is translated from Beragam, Bergizi, Seimbang, dan Aman (B2SA).
According to the Secretary of the East Kutai Food Security Department, Bennie Hermawan, the food creation competition will be held on July 11, 2023, and will be attended by Regent Ardiansyah Sulaiman and Vice Regent Kasmidi Bulang.
“This activity is an important part of campaigning for the central and local government programs related to B2SA by optimizing existing resources around to be processed into food sources,” explained Bennie.
The B2SA program as one of the government efforts is expected to encourage people to learn, process and consume local food sources based on nutritional balance. Thus, it can help create a healthy, active, and productive East Kutai community.
Bennie added, “The goal is for people to be able to implement and create menus that are eaten every day. Don’t fixate on solely one type of food product.”
Further, this activity is in accordance with Food Law No. 18 of 2021 which mandates that the central and regional governments are obliged to embody diversity in food consumption to meet the nutritional needs of the community and support healthy, active, and productive lives.
“For example, currently most of our people still consume rice. In fact, sources of carbohydrates can be found in other foodstuffs, such as sweet potatoes, corn, cassava, and sago which we still find around our homes. Besides that, those foodstuffs are definitely healthier,” Bennie said.
In addition, he also emphasized that people must change their food consumption patterns by utilizing abundant local food sources. Not only to meet the need for balanced nutrition, this also aims to reduce dependence on certain food sources.
