Through the people’s livestock program, the Food Crop Department will gradually change the method of raising livestock from grazing to keeping them in cages.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Food Crops, Horticulture and Livestock Department (DTPHP) is responsible for running three of the seven priority development programs in East Kutai, namely the provision of superior seeds and seedlings, the construction of farming roads and the provision of fertilizers for farmers, as well as a self-reliant people’s livestock.
In the operational control meeting held by the East Kutai Regency Government, the Head of the Food Crops, Horticulture, and Livestock Department, Dyah Ratnaningrum, said that most of her department’s development programs had been implemented in 2022.
“We have started these programs since 2022, except for self-reliant people’s livestock which is currently running this year,” said Dyah.
According to her, thus far cattlemen in East Kutai are still using conventional methods of raising livestock, namely by grazing, primarily cows. Therefore, her party will gradually change the method, one of which is by keeping them in cages.
Dyah explained, “The risk (cage method) is that they have to provide feed. Don’t worry, we have obtained several feed seeds that have good nutrition for cows, including pakchong and gama umami grass which will later be distributed to cattlemen.”
Previously, at the operational control meeting, Regent Ardiansyah Sulaiman asked all regional apparatuses to take strategic steps to encourage the achievement of predetermined work targets. Ardiansyah said, “If during the implementation of activities encounter problems or obstacles, immediately coordinate with related parties to find a solution.”
Meanwhile, Vice Regent Kasmidi Bulang asked the heads of regional apparatus organizations and all participants to improve their performance in the remainder of 2023. ” July to December, (performance) progress is expected to increase even further,” Kasmidi voiced.
