Heaptalk, Jakarta — Celebrating the Dahau Festival in commemoration of the 24th anniversary of West Kutai, the Tourism Department held a fashion show competition which took place at Sendawar Cultural Park, Barong Tongkok District.

This competition showcased fashion made from local wastra, namely batik typical of West Kutai. Head of the West Kutai Tourism Department Yuyun Diah Setiorini said that this competition was an opportunity for West Kutai residents to express their creativity through a typical batik fashion show. The local wastra promoted in this competition is considered appropriate as it reflects the local wisdom of West Kutai as a regency that upholds its traditions.

“Thank you to all those who support, and who want to elevate the talents of young people in West Kutai. This is also to reflect local wisdom which must continue to be improved to revive love for West Kutai,” said Yuyun.

This year’s fashion show competition was attended by 100 participants divided into three categories, namely children aged 4-10 years with 73 participants, teenagers aged 11-16 years with 45 participants, and traditional clothes in general pairs with 18 participants.

“West Kutai’s typical casual batik is again displayed with a combination of traditional Indonesian fabric motifs typical of West Kutai, such as tumang, doyo, badong, agit, moring, and others,” Yuyun explained.

She further said that this activity is expected to raise the tourism sector to become more well-known. Additionally, this fashion show competition will be an annual agenda for the West Kutai Tourism Department.

“This activity aims to make us proud of West Kutai’s typical products and love regional literature by wearing them when traveling or in public places,” Yuyun added. The Regency Government expected that with this event, West Kutai batik and traditional clothing would become better known to all levels of society. (Translated by Sinta)
