Heaptalk, Jakarta — Good news delivered to the Ministry of Trade regarding export of halal products from the Republic of Indonesia 2023. Conducting review for Indonesia halal products performance from the January to October 2023, Ministry of Trade revealed that the industry experienced a surplus for approximately USD 42,33 billion.
“Indeed the number is decreasing compared to 2022 in the same period, but we actually see an interesting thing, the 2023 benchmark where our surplus in the trade balance for halal products reached USD 42,23 billion, whereas our national surplus value reached USD 54,5 billion in total. About 85% Indonesia’s national export surplus is contributed by halal products,” said General Director of National Export Development, Ministry of Trade, Didi Sumedi during Media Briefing Publication of Export Performance of Indonesian Halal Products, Tuesday (19/12/2023).
Didi also explained, processed food such as palm oil and its variations, processed fish, pasta, cacao, waffles, wafer and biscuit remain as favorites. The transaction value generated until October 2023 is USD 34,743.34 million.
Meanwhile, Muslim clothing placed in second with a total figure generated approximately of USD 6,679.63 billion.
There are also countries that become the largest consumer of Indonesia’s halal products, for example China, India, America, Pakistan, and Malaysia.
Through this opportunity, Didi explained, as a way to propel Halal small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the government has established the Indonesia Halal Export Incorporated. This establishment is derived from the Decree of the Secretary of the National Sharia Economic and Financial Committee, number KEP-1/S.KNEKS/2022 on 22 October 20222. The accelerated program of Halal SMEs is focused on access to the export market for halal products, export financing, incubation and production, as well as trade agreements with partner countries.
Didi continued, Kemendag had also done various Halal Products Promotion 2023 programs. Including various fairs namely Thaifex Anuga Asia in Bangkok and Malaysia International Halal Showcase; as for modest fashion products Trade Ministry had also participated in the New York Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Indonesia Festival 2023 in South Korea, and Jakarta Muslim Fashion. The authority has also been promoting Indonesian halal product through trade missions. Some of them are Saudi Arabia, Egypt and India trade missions.
At the topmost point, Trade Ministry has also held a Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) that will be held in person on 18 – 22 October 2023 and online on 18 October – 18 December 2023. TEI is an annual scale exhibition and the biggest in Indonesia that is attended by buyers from other countries. This agenda is aimed to promote Indonesia’s products.
As a conclusion, Didi added, to expand the competitiveness, Ministry of Trade holds another certification facilitation programs. Some of them being facilitation of halal certificates for businesses in processed food/drinks, cosmetics and cosmetic ingredients, as well as skin products.
