Heaptalk, Jakarta — The prestigious Anugerah Musik Indonesia (AMI) Awards will return its 27th edition on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta. The event, themed New Generation of Music, aims to celebrate and elevate Indonesian music across diverse genres and cultural expressions.

“I wholeheartedly support the AMI Awards 2024, as this annual event is expected to serve as a testament to the growth of Indonesian music, showcasing its diversity and cultural depth,” the Minister of Culture Fadli Zon conveyed during a Press Conference on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Ministry of Culture’s Building A.

The minister highlighted how young musicians and emerging talents from across Indonesia are thriving due to the increasing accessibility of digital platforms. He stressed that music must serve as a “binding power” for the nation’s identity, encouraging new artists to infuse fresh energy and innovation while preserving their cultural roots.

Strengthening the creative ecosystem

Candra Darusman, Chairman of the AMI Foundation, noted that the 27th AMI Awards is more than a celebration of musical achievements. It also plays a strategic role in bolstering Indonesia’s creative economy and music ecosystem.

“For 27 years, the AMI Awards has honored over 62 music categories, reflecting the wealth of Indonesia’s musical heritage that we must continue to protect and nurture. Music is not just entertainment—it’s a vital part of our cultural identity,” Candra remarked.

He underscored the importance of the ongoing collaboration between the AMI Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, which extends support not only to mainstream artists but also to traditional music artisans and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the creative sector.

Promoting Cultural Heritage and International Outreach

Through initiatives like AMI Tradisi, the foundation is spotlighting traditional Indonesian instruments such as the sasando, angklung, and suling bambu. These efforts aim to preserve cultural heritage while expanding international market opportunities for traditional arts and crafts.

“We aim to introduce these cultural treasures to the world, ensuring that traditional artists and SMEs alike can achieve greater prosperity,” Candra said.

The AMI Foundation is also breaking new ground by forging partnerships with music awards in Japan to bring Indonesian music to a global audience.

A Call for Collaboration

In a bid to amplify Indonesia’s music on the international stage, the AMI Awards is forging partnerships with music award organizations in Japan. This collaboration is expected to open new pathways for Indonesian artists in global markets. Candra called upon all stakeholders to view the AMI Awards as a platform for appreciation and collaboration, driving the progress of Indonesia’s music industry.

“Let us use this moment to celebrate the creativity of our musicians and work together for the advancement of Indonesia’s music industry,” Candra concluded.
