Heaptalk, Jakarta — A consumer electronic company Xiaomi teams up with the electronic waste management platform, Octopus, to manage society’s electronic waste recycling.

A symbolic electronic waste donation executed by Xiaomi Indonesia teams and its users who participated in Octopus Takes Over Jakarta Festival in the GBK City Forest on Sunday (6/26). The electronic waste donation was also part of the Jakarta Waste Awareness Movement Week program to celebrate Jakarta’s 495th birthday, initiated by DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service.

The Country Director of Xiaomi Indonesia, Wentao Zhao said, “As one of a technology company, Xiaomi is pleased to take part in achieving a sustainable life by protecting the environment. Thus, we expect the program can be strategic action to attract our consumers to provide numerous benefits for society through the innovation and collaboration,”

The team of this electronic company has selected ten Xiaomi stores as drop-off points of Octopus in several shopping centers around the Jakarta region. The stores are include Aeon Jakarta Garden City in East Jakarta, Kelapa Gading Mall, Artha Gading Mall, Emporium Pluit Mall in North Jakarta, Lippo St. Moriz, Central Park Mall in East Jakarta, ITC Roxy Mas in Central Jakarta, Kota Casablanka Mall, Gandaria City Mall, and Pondok Indah Mall in South Jakarta.

Welcoming this strategic partnership, Chief Executive Officer of Octopus, Moehammad Ichsan uttered, “We appreciate involving this well-known technology brand Xiaomi to work together to diminish the terrible impact of business on our environment. The collaboration of various parties is crucial for us to promote a circular economy in reaching a sustainable ecosystem.”

As a part of this cooperation form, the electronic waste will periodically be picked up by Octopus preservers and processed by waste management companies. The preservers will also utilize this processed electronic rubbish to become a renewable energy source in decreasing the waste volume in the Final Disposal Site.

Apart from being dedicated to Xiaomi’s consumers, this program plans to invite the public society to participate in recycling their small-size electronic trash in July by visiting the selected Xiaomi stores. People are also encouraged to download the Octopus application before dropping off their electronic waste to earn points. The point, further, can be exchanged with exciting promo.

Established in 2018, Octopus Indonesia is a well-known circular economy platform that helps producers to track & collect its recyclable and non-recyclable products. As a driving platform in the recycling industry, Octopus aims to process plastic waste to reduce environmental pollution in the country. (SFM)
