Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) held its inaugural plenary meeting in Jakarta. This management team was formed as a result of the Extraordinary Congress held on August 18. One of the decisions made during the conference was to designate Riau as the host of National Press Day (HPN) 2025.

“The primary agenda is to foster relationships and introductions among the management team appointed by the formator resulting from the Extraordinary Congress for the remaining term from 2023 to 2028,” said PWI Central Chairman Zulmansyah Sekedang.

Ten decisions were reached during the plenary meeting. One of them is promptly occupying the PWI Central office on the fourth floor of the Press Council building, as PWI Advisory Council members Tribuana Said, Atal S Depari, and DK PWI Banjar member Chairuddin suggested.

“The management of PWI resulting from the KLB is legitimate, legal, and following the PWI constitution. Let’s immediately occupy the PWI office on the fourth floor of the Press Council. I am ready to work with the KLB-appointed management to take over the PWI Central office,” stated Atal S Depari, former PWI Central Chairman from 2018 to 2023.

The PWI Central plenary meeting also confirmed that National Press Day 2025 will be held in Riau Province, aligning with the PWI National Work Conference outcomes at HPN 2024. Therefore, PWI Riau Province is tasked with communicating with the local government and partners.

The provincial PWI management teams that have not yet been inaugurated, such as PWI DKI Jakarta, PWI West Sumatra, and PWI Southwest Papua, are encouraged to set a date for their inauguration by PWI Central. Additionally, regarding the independent competency tests to be conducted by PWI West Java, East Java, and Central Java, they are requested to coordinate promptly with the Director of UKW at PWI Central, Aat Surya Safaat.

As Chairman of the Advisory Council, Ilham Bintang reminded the new PWI Central management to uphold ethics, morality, and professional integrity. “We must avoid repeating incidents like cash back that tarnish the reputation of PWI throughout Indonesia. Journalists must maintain ethics and conduct themselves according to the Code of Ethics and Conduct of PWI,” concluded Ilham Bintang.
