Implementing GIIAS 2023 is targeted to reach Rp15 trillion, exceeding the previous sales transactions of Rp14.3 trillion, with 26,000 units sold in 2022.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2023 has officially opened from August 10th – 20th, 2023, at ICE BSD, Tangerang.

Inaugurated by Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, he revealed that Indonesia’s automotive export competitiveness uplifted up to 10 levels, from 44th to 34th position. With this promising progress, Airlangga affirmed that implementing GIIAS 2023 is targeted to reach Rp15 trillion, exceeding the previous sales transactions of Rp14.3 trillion, with 26,000 units sold in 2022.

“The government will also continue to encourage the export value of Indonesia’s automotive industry. If last year’s export value reached 470,000 units, we target this year’s exports to attain 500,000 units. Hopefully, this expectation will show that Indonesia has strong competitiveness in exporting to 93 countries.

For this reason, Airlangga appreciates the implementation of GIIAS 2023, with the theme of the Future Now, where electric vehicle trends are growing in Indonesia. The government will continue to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles by making several policies to promote the development of environmentally friendly vehicles.

Simultaneously, Gaikindo’s Chairman, Yohannes Nangoi, revealed that Indonesia’s automotive industry managed to close 2022 with fantastic results. He said the automotive sector had elevated its foreign investment value to 3.3%, reaching more than US$1.5 billion. This outcome occupies the eleventh position out of 23 industrial sectors in Indonesia.

Furthermore, the production of motorized vehicles in Indonesia is also ranked 11th globally. At the same time, Indonesia’s domestic sales are in 14th position. He claimed the Ministry’s approach towards the brand principle of the automotive industry in the country also contributed to the export value of up to 60% last year.

“We also aim to support the government’s goal to reach Net Zero Emission (NZE) by presenting the new environmentally friendly vehicles, namely battery-based electric motorized vehicles, and continue to spread valuable education for visitors related to the transition towards renewable energy utilization sustainably,” added Nangoi.

Held for ten days, GIIAS 2023 will present 49 motorized vehicles brands, including passenger vehicles, spanning Audi, BMW, Chery, DFSK, Hyundai, Honda, KIA, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedez-Bens, MG, MINI, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Citroen, Haval, and Wuling. Also, several commercial vehicles will enliven this automotive event, covering Hino, Isuzu, Mitsubishi Fuso, and UD Trucks.
