Heaptalk, Jakarta – Minister of Public Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, is taking firm action in response to public complaints regarding housing issues, particularly the stalled Meikarta apartment project, which has been abandoned since 2018. Minister Maruarar, commonly known as Minister Ara, has announced a meeting with Lippo Group executives James Riady and John Riady on April 23 to address this matter.

“This Wednesday, I will invite James Riady and his son, John Riady, to discuss Meikarta here. I have called him, and he agreed to come on Wednesday,” Minister Ara stated in Jakarta, as cited in Antara (04/16).

The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) has also invited Meikarta consumers to the meeting, allowing them to voice their concerns and seek solutions.

Previously, Minister Ara emphasized that numerous complaints about housing defaults had been left unresolved for years. To tackle this, the Ministry of PKP launched the BENAR-PKP service, aiming to mediate between consumers and developers while ensuring that homebuyers receive their rightful entitlements.

“We cannot ignore the people, making them to feel hopeless and unsure where to report their grievances,” Minister Ara stated during the launch of BENAR-PKP.

At the launch event, 26 Meikarta consumers expressed their frustrations. Collectively, these individuals had suffered financial losses totaling Rp 4.5 billion due to undelivered apartments. Minister Ara immediately instructed his team to arrange a meeting with Lippo Group the next day.

According to Mulyansari, Director of Business Development and Consumer Protection at the Ministry of PKP, the outcome of the meeting was clear, affected consumers should either receive a full refund of their payments or be provided with replacement units by Lippo Group.

The upcoming meeting on April 23 is expected to provide a decisive resolution for Meikarta buyers who have long awaited justice.
