Around 85% of Google Career Certificates scholarship program participants in the previous batch report their career progress.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Google Indonesia provides 11,000 additional Google Career Certificates (GCC) scholarships program.
Cooperating with numerous government entities, spanning Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN), and Telkom Indonesia, these entities will channel the scholarship related to the technological fields, including IT Support, Data Analytics, UX Design, Digital Marketing and E-Commerce, Project Management, and Cybersecurity. These courses will endow the participants with professional capabilities within three or six years.
According to Google Indonesia’s Managing Director, Randy Jusuf, more than 19,000 people in the country have earned their Google Career Certificates in IT Support, Data Analytics, and UX Design.
He added, “Around 85% of them have reported a positive career outcome. We are also launching certificates in Digital Marketing and E-Commerce, Project Management, and Cybersecurity. This program is the fourth initiation of working with the Ministry of Communications and Informatics program, Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS).
Head of the Human Resources Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Hary Budianto, revealed the Ministry of Technology Communication and Informatics would absorb around 5,000 scholarships. He affirmed the scholarship would be disbursed into two levels that the Ministry owns, including Fresh Graduate Academy, devoted to the students, and Professional Academy, dedicated to the employees level.
“We will divide the Fresh Graduate Academy level into two fields, namely UI/UX Design and IT Support, with 11,250 slots in each field, while the rest will be channeled to the Professional Academy level,” added Hary.
Refers to the Economist Impact research supported by Google, the data reveals that 77% of employees in the archipelago now believe that employers lean towards skills-based hiring over paper qualifications. The survey, conducted from November 2022 to January 2023, disclosed that around 1,375 employees across the Asia Pacific, including 100 workforces in Indonesia, also discovered that employees consider data analysis and visualization reached 56%, IT Support attained 51%, along with digital marketing and e-commerce of 48% to be the most critical advanced tech skills to have in today’s job market.
Furthermore, more than 25% of the employees surveyed said coding, programming, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and machine learning are must-have skills. Data from 2020 suggest that only 1% of the workforce in the country possesses advanced digital skills.
Since 2018, Google has launched more than 22,000 scholarships through its partners. On the other hand, this program has also produced graduates from this certification program, and 85% of them reported progress in their careers. Seeing this accomplishment, Google added about 11,000 additional scholarships this year. By involving diverse entities to conduct the program, this technology company believes Indonesia’s human resources could compete for their digital skill globally, particularly amidst the rising technology information ecosystem worldwide.
