Heaptalk, Jakarta — Venture Capital firm East Ventures accomplished its inaugural general partner-led secondary transaction. Coller Capital, a globally recognized secondary investment specialist, acted as the sole underwriter for the transaction, providing liquidity to limited partners of East Ventures 5 L.P. (EV5).

This strategic move culminates in a significant distribution-to-paid-in-capital (DPI) of approximately 2.0x for EV5, solidifying its position as a top-performing fund within the East Ventures portfolio. In this transaction, UBS Private Funds Group served as the financial advisor. Furthermore, Gibson Dunn, and Crutcher acted as legal counsel to East Ventures, while Debevoise and Plimpton advised Coller Capital.

“This transaction provides our limited partners with a compelling liquidity event and reinforces our enduring partnership with the exceptional entrepreneurs and management teams within our portfolio companies. We firmly believe these companies are well-positioned to capitalize on the robust and sustained growth trajectory of the Indonesian economy, particularly within the burgeoning digital sector.” Willson Cuaca, East Ventures‘ Co-Founder and Managing Partner, said.

EV5, a cornerstone fund within East Ventures, was established to invest in high-growth potential seed and early-stage technology companies across Southeast Asia. The Fund’s portfolio boasts a distinguished roster of leading regional players, including IDN and waresix, many of which remain integral to subsequent East Ventures funds. This secondary transaction underscores the firm’s unwavering confidence in its curated high-performing, emerging companies ecosystem.

The transaction incorporated a profit-sharing component to ensure optimal outcomes for all stakeholders. This innovative structure enabled EV5 to deliver attractive returns to its limited partners while preserving its vested interest in the continued growth trajectory of its portfolio companies.

East Ventures retains a substantial equity stake in these companies and remains an active partner to their respective management teams, providing invaluable operational support and robust corporate governance frameworks and leveraging its extensive Southeast Asian network to drive continued success.

“Building upon our longstanding relationship, we have efficiently executed this transaction to align with East Ventures’ strategic objectives and deliver substantial value to their investors. This transaction is a testament to Coller Capital’s expertise in crafting innovative and bespoke liquidity solutions that foster strong alignment between sponsors and their limited partners.” Partner, Head of Asia, and RMB at Coller Capital, Peter Kim, affirmed.
