Heaptalk, Jakarta — GDP Venture’s portfolios, including Blibli, Tiket.com, and Tinkerlust, continue to take sustainable measures by integrating ESG-critical aspects of their businesses.
Blibli has become the first e-commerce company in Indonesia to launch a sustainability program under the ESG umbrella named Blibli Tiket Action. This program strives to create a sustainable business that involves employees, customers, partners, and other stakeholders to support positive economic, social, and environmental impacts.
Co-Founder & COO of Blibli, Lisa Widodo, explained, “Blibli focuses on six main areas in its sustainability program: resource use, waste management, emissions, data privacy, community relations, and development and learning. To date, 95% of the packaging used by Blibli is made from recycled and paper-based materials. Additionally, Blibli has planted over 8,000 trees to offset carbon emissions.”
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s online travel agent (OTA), tiket.com, has elevated the awareness of Sustainable Tourism through the Tiket Green feature, which is expected to have a long-term positive impact on the environment, socio-cultural aspects, and the economy of local communities.
Co-founder and CMO of Tiket.com Gaery Undarsa explained, “The Tiket Green feature is the latest innovation from Tiket.com that provides consumers access to choose accommodations that embrace sustainability. To understand the importance of sustainable tourism, the standardization of sustainable accommodations plays a major role in guiding tourist accommodations towards the green accommodation concept.”
This OTA company has over 5,400 accommodation options worldwide, including 700 options in Indonesia and Southeast Asia that implement sustainable tourism. We also collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) in the Jagoan Pariwisata program to invite village tourism business actors to enhance their business capabilities to be more sustainable.
Furthermore, a marketplace startup connecting fashion enthusiasts with buyers to sell and purchase second-hand branded fashion items continues to reduce fashion waste, making it the second-largest contributor globally.
“Tinkerlust, we play a role in raising awareness about decluttering, releasing a white paper on fashion sustainability in Indonesia, and partnering with local designers to upcycle preloved items. We see tangible evidence that public awareness of sustainability is increasing, as reflected in the growing number of sellers on our platform each year.” Founder and COO of Tinkerlust, Aliya Amitra, said.
Companies must set clear and measurable goals to implement sustainability, integrate strategies, apply best practices, ensure transparency, build collaboration and conduct comprehensive performance evaluations. These steps ensure that sustainability initiatives run well and positively impact the environment and society.
