Heaptalk, Jakarta — Australia’s government announced it is re-opening its borders to fully vaccinated visa holders, tourists, business travelers, and other worldwide visitors. The opening of Australia’s borders is expected to revive this country’s economy from the tourism industry.
The announcement is part of Australia’s planned re-opening of international travel based on quarantine-free travel arrangements, allowing people from Singapore, Japan, and South Korea to start traveling again in 2021. People from Singapore were eligible on November 21, 2021, while people from Japan and South Korea were on December 15, 2021.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Indonesia is Australia’s eleventh largest source of international visitation. Indonesia’s visitors who visited Australia reached 222,000, making up 2% of the 11,7 million Indonesians who traveled internationally in 2019.
Also, the number of visitors from Indonesia who traveled to two or more cities or regions in Australia reached 38% in 2019. New South Wales was the most visited state, followed by Victoria, Western Australia, and Queensland. They spend an average of 19 nights holidaying in Australia, of which 41% are spent in the regions.
Tourism Australia‘s Regional General Manager for South and South-East Asia, Brent Anderson, stated, “Australia has long been a popular outbound destination for Indonesian travelers, with 74% repeat visitation. Australia’s endless opportunities to get out into nature while enjoying cosmopolitan and multicultural cityscapes have never been more precious or desirable in this new global travel era. Australia has a lot of different, creative, and environmentally friendly new things for Indonesian tourists to do.
Likewise, he added, “Our numerous tourism operators have continued to innovate and evolve, which comes to life in our artisanal coffee and restaurant scene. There’s no better time to awaken your sense of wonder and unlock your imagination by taking the trip to Australia now, particularly for everyone who’s missed Australia, “
Australia provided several terms and conditions for travelers to avoid the COVID-19 transmission. Visitors will need to comply with requirements in the state or territory of their arrival and any other state or territories where they plan to. They are suggested to check the latest conditions before traveling and are also encouraged to review any needs of their stopover destinations due to entry information being updated regularly.
International travelers must have a valid Australian visa to enter this country. Starting February 21st, 2022, visa holders who are fully vaccinated with two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) can travel to Australia quarantine-free without the need to apply for a travel exemption. To enter Australia, visa holders who haven’t been fully vaccinated will still need a valid travel exemption. They will also have to follow state and territory quarantine rules.
They can also explore all the states and territories except for Western Australia. For requirements to travel into Australia’s specific countries and regions, tourists are requested to visit the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website to gain further information.
