Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT MRT Jakarta officially commenced the construction of the deepest railway tunnel in the Jakarta MRT Phase 2A North-South Line project on Friday (05/09). The MRT tunnel is being built 27 meters below ground level, making it Indonesia’s deepest underground railway tunnel. It will connect Harmoni Station, Sawah Besar Station, and Mangga Besar Station.

Tuhiyat, President Director of PT MRT Jakarta, stated that the company has prepared a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named 1 CP202 for this project. “This machine has a diameter of approximately 6.790 meters and a length of about 11.950 meters,” he said.

Tunnel Boring Machine 1 will operate daily and construct 7.5 to 8 meters of MRT tunnel daily. He added, “To build these three stations, we will use two tunnel boring machines.”

TBM 1 will begin tunneling from Harmoni Station to Sawah Besar Station in May 2025, with a target completion date of September 2025. It will then proceed from Sawah Besar Station to Mangga Besar Station in September 2025, aiming for completion by June 2026. “Meanwhile, TBM 2 will operate from July 2025 to September 2026,” Tuhiyat added.

Overall, CP202 is part of the Jakarta MRT Phase 2A contract package, which includes the construction of Harmoni, Sawah Besar, and Mangga Besar Stations, along with two connecting tunnels. “This contract package marks a milestone for Indonesia’s construction industry, as it will be the country’s first four-level underground railway station and tunnel,” he said.
