Heaptalk, Jakarta — The State Electricity Company (PLN) ensures that all EV infrastructure, including the public electric vehicle charging station (SPKLU) in West Java Province, is ready to serve electric vehicles (EVs) used by the public during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 celebrations.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo confirmed this during a series of inspections of the Trans Java public electric vehicle charging stations and a direct review of the One Stop EV Charging Station in Surapati, Bandung, on Wednesday (12/25). Previously, inspections were conducted at a public electric vehicle charging station at the Rest Area KM 43 A, Jakarta-Merak toll road, Banten.
The company has deployed 312 public electric vehicle charging stations spread across 214 locations in 26 cities/regencies in West Java. To ensure smooth charging, PLN has also prepared 474 personnel to work in shifts 24 hours a day at each charging station location. “Specifically in West Java, we have increased the number of SPKLUs to 312, and each city/regency already has its SPKLU. Even in southern coastal areas, Tasikmalaya, Cianjur, and Sukabumi all have SPKLUs,” explained Darmawan.
Furthermore, PLN has also provided a One-Stop EV Charging Station in Bandung. This facility can be found at Surapati Street No. 36 Bandung City. At this facility, PLN provides two ultra-fast charging units, three medium charging units, and one charging unit for two-wheeled electric vehicles.
Holistically, EV travelers passing along the Trans Java and Sumatra toll roads are projected to surge 2.5 to 3 times compared to the previous year. To anticipate this surge, the capacity of PLN’s public electric vehicle charging stations along the toll roads has increased eightfold compared to last year, from only 64 to 500 units.
“As of last night, the number of transactions during the Christmas and New Year compared to last year increased 4.5 times. So, we are seeing a significant surge in charging transactions at our SPKLUs. Therefore, we are here to ensure that all our public charging SPKLU systems operate smoothly,” continued Darmawan.
Along the toll roads, PLN has also increased EV infrastructure, including the number of public electric vehicle charging stations nationally, from around 1,000 units last year to more than 3,069 units spread across 2,096 locations throughout Indonesia. “We have also deployed 6,000 of our personnel to ensure that charging services for electric vehicles run smoothly and comfortably,” Darmawan revealed.
The company has also provided a Trip Planner feature through the PLN Mobile application to pamper electric vehicle users. This feature makes it easy for electric car users to plan their trips with information on the locations of public electric vehicle charging stations, travel distances, and charging needs.
