Heaptalk, Jakarta — BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, announced plans to establish an EV plant in Pakistan (08/17). As part of the expansion plan, the company will also market three models through a partnership with Mega Motors, starting in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The three models include two SUVs and a sedan. Mega Motors is a unit of Pakistan’s largest private utility company, Hub Power Co (Hubco). In addition, BYD will also set up three flagship stores and experience centers in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
“We will establish Pakistan’s first NEV (new electric vehicle) assembly plant, dedicated to producing BYD’s cutting-edge new energy vehicles,” said Kamran Kamal, Hubco‘s Chief Executive, as quoted by Reuters.
This new manufacturing facility is expected to begin operations in 2026. Hubco will also build fast-charging stations across major cities, motorways, and highways to enhance Pakistan’s charging infrastructure. BYD is the first major new electric vehicle (NEV) entrant in the Pakistani market, which currently has limited charging infrastructure.
“Our entry into the Pakistani market is not just about bringing advanced vehicles to consumers; it’s about driving a broader vision of environmental responsibility and technological innovation,” said Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD’s Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, at a launch event in Lahore broadcast on the BYD Pakistan YouTube account (08/17).
