“This celebration, with President Jokowi, is a great moment to promote Southeast Sulawesi’s local woven cloth,” conveyed Acting Governor of Southeast Sulawesi Andap.
Heaptalk, Jakarta – Acting Governor of Southeast Sulawesi Andap Budhi Revianto capitalized on the celebration of Istana Berbatik (Berbatik Palace) to showcase Southeast Sulawesi’s authentic woven clothes in Merdeka Palace.
Wearing this local product on the occasion, Acting Governor Andap stated, “This celebration, with President Jokowi, is a great moment to promote Southeast Sulawesi’s local woven cloth,” conveyed Andap.
For Andap, Istana Berbatik provides a great exposure the local heritage because it was attended directly by President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, several ministers, governors, regents, the ambassadors of multiple countries worldwide, outstanding athletes, and the winners of Miss Indonesia and Puteri Indonesia.
Revealing the philosophy of his clothes, Andap explained that the black and red colors represent Buton tribe and Muna tribe, the indigenous ethnicity of Southeast Sulawesi. The motif of Buton’s clothes symbolizes ‘Lawa’ or a gate while the Muna’s motif is a mat that demonstrates wisdom.
“My clothes combine the motif of two tribes, which means a harmonious union, we always uphold diversity. We believe that diversity is our strength to deliver welfare for our society.”
Wearing the Southeast Sulawesi’s cloths proudly, Andap stated that this measure is also aligned with the President’s instruction to preserve the archipelago’s heritage.
For information, Istana Berbatik is an occasion that was held before the National Batik Day on October 2nd. Prior to this event, UNESCO officially declared Batik as Indonesia’s intangible cultural heritage on October 2nd, 2009.
