Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed the archipelago’s commitment to promoting more open, organized, and equitable trade during the Leaders’ Retreat of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2024 in Lima, Peru.
The statement was made during a press briefing on Saturday, November 16th, 2024, following a series of APEC Summit events. President Prabowo emphasized APEC’s strategic role as a platform to strengthen relations among Asia-Pacific nations.
“APEC provides a valuable opportunity to sustain and enhance networks among leaders across the Pacific. We discussed numerous issues, particularly on maintaining open yet equitable trade. This is a significant moment for collaboration,” he remarked.
The President emphasized the significance of well-organized international trade, reiterating Indonesia’s stance on advocating for free and fair commerce. “We aim for well-regulated, free, but fair trade,” he asserted.
As one of the region’s most significant economies, Indonesia remains steadfast in its commitment to actively ensuring equality in global trade. During the APEC Summit, President Prabowo engaged in multiple bilateral meetings with other world leaders, focusing on amplifying trade relations, boosting investment, and exploring mutually beneficial partnerships.
The APEC 2024 Summit in Lima also served as a critical platform for Indonesia to champion inclusive trade policies that benefit significant, smaller, and developing economies across the Asia-Pacific region.
Previously, the Indonesian President attended the Leaders’ Retreat session at the Lima Convention Center, where Peruvian President Dina Boluarte warmly welcomed him. With the archipelago’s proactive participation in APEC, the nation continues to advocate for a balanced and inclusive approach to global trade, reinforcing its role as a critical player in the region’s economic growth.
