Heaptalk, Jakarta — President Joko Widodo has instructed the involvement of religious leaders and community figures in combating online gambling, as he has firmly voiced the prohibition and dangers of this issue. He urges the public to avoid gambling both offline and online.
In a press release on Wednesday (19/06), Jokowi outlined his strategy to tackle online gambling in Indonesia. Firstly, he instructed the formation of an Online Gambling Eradication Task Force. This task force, led by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto, is tasked with accelerating efforts to eradicate online gambling activities.
Recognizing that online gambling is transnational and involves various jurisdictions, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of community involvement in curbing gambling. “One of the most important defenses is the defense from our own community and personal defense,” he asserted.
Furthermore, President Jokowi called on religious leaders, community figures, and citizens to actively remind, monitor, and report all forms of gambling activities. Active involvement from all layers of society plays a critical role in building a national defense against online gambling.
