Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Elaelo site has been a hot topic among social media users due to rumors that it was created by the Indonesian government to replace Twitter.
Minister of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi denied these rumors. In a press release, Budi Arie stated that the government did not make the Elaelo site. “Currently, Kominfo is investigating who the developer is,” explained Budi.
Regarding the Garuda symbol and the message ‘Under Construction by Kominfo’ on the elaelo.id site, Budi stated that it was a phishing attempt. Phishing is an effort to use fake websites to deceive potential victims. Budi Arie also emphasized that the elaelo.id site will be shut down this Wednesday. “It’s phishing. It will be shut down today,” he said. Budi assured us that the Elaelo site would cease to exist soon.
Recently, the government has warned that it will block access to Twitter in Indonesia as the platform allows users to upload pornographic videos. The Ministry will summon Twitter’s owners next. “If they do not appear after two summonses, we will immediately block access to Twitter in Indonesia,” stated Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, the Ministry’s Director General of Informatics Applications.
In addition to pornographic content, Semuel also urged all messaging and social media platforms not to promote online gambling activities. Parties promoting online gambling will receive three warning letters before their access is cut off.
