World Tuberculosis Day was commemorated by holding healthy gymnastics at Sangatta Polder and providing trophies to cadres of drug swallowing supervisors in East Kutai.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The East Kutai Health Department in collaboration with the Indonesian Tuberculosis Eradication Association (PPTI) commemorated World Tuberculosis Day by holding healthy gymnastics at the Sangatta Polder (06/11).
This event adopted the theme “Let’s end tuberculosis (TB) together, create a healthy Indonesia with TOSS TB, create healthy families with TB prevention therapy, eliminate stigma, and wholeheartedly support TB patients”. In addition to the healthy gymnastics, the Health Department and PPTI provided trophies and coaching money to cadres of drug swallowing supervisors (PMO) in East Kutai and winners of tuberculosis control creation videos.
According to the Assistant for Governance and People’s Welfare (Pemkesra), Poniso Suryo Renggono, tuberculosis is a joint responsibility, not solely the government. The community can immediately report to the regional hospital or the nearest health service if they suffer from this disease.
Poniso said, “Tuberculosis must be eradicated together. To the community, if there are neighbors or relatives with TB symptoms such as coughing for 3 days, they should immediately be taken to the doctor and get health care.”
Further, he hopes that the movement that is being carried out by PPTI and the Health Department can be continued with the community to eradicate tuberculosis. “The government appreciates today’s activities. Hopefully, the activities can benefit the community, at least provide information and reduce TB disease in East Kutai,” he voiced.
Meanwhile, the Head of the East Kutai Health Department, dr. Bahrani said that the activities on this TB Day are to motivate all that TB control can be completed if we work together, starting with the family and doing it wholeheartedly.
The chair of PPTI East Kutai, Tirah Satriani, conveyed, “We are playing an active role in assisting the government in eradicating TB disease in East Kutai by forming sub-branch committees in all districts. In this way, cadres of drug swallowing supervisors can be available in the community who will assist TB early detection activities to reduce the number of TB cases in East Kutai.”
With this action, Tirah hopes that the synergy of community elements can produce a joint commitment to support each other in tackling TB in East Kutai.
