Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) plans to reorganize frequency allocation and incorporate new technologies, such as satellites, to enhance internet penetration across the archipelago.
“In the short term, we aim to restructure frequency allocation so that all Indonesian citizens can access high-quality internet,” stated Wayan Toni Supriyanto, Director General of Digital Infrastructure at Komdigi, in a written press release on Monday (13/01).
As Wayan explained, the Ministry will also consider technological advancements and their potential applications in the frequency reallocation process. One highlighted technology is satellite-based internet using Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.
“Not just Starlink, Kuiper, and several other LEO satellites will also enter Indonesia. This way, even the most remote areas will have internet access,” Wayan, as he is commonly known, added.
Wayan emphasized that achieving equitable connectivity is Komdigi’s primary focus. This includes commercial and underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions (3T areas).
Digital Affairs Ministry will collaborate with local governments to ensure that the development of connectivity infrastructure proceeds smoothly and is even expedited.
The connectivity infrastructure will employ various technologies, ranging from fiber optic cables to radio waves.
“We will coordinate with local governments for fiber optic cables. As for frequency-related matters, we will strive to ensure that regulations and frequency use are optimized for the best possible benefit,” said Wayan.
